- Who this is for
- Office staff, shop and warehouse record keepers, students preparing for work, and anyone whose job involves numbers kept in a book or in someone's head.
- What you need first
- Basic computer use — files, folders, typing. Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice Calc installed. A desktop or laptop; this cannot be learned on a phone.
What this course sets out to do
- Build spreadsheets that stay correct when data is added or rows are moved.
- Use formulas and functions to answer questions rather than to retype figures.
- Summarise large amounts of data quickly with sorting, filtering and pivot tables.
- Present numbers so the reader draws the right conclusion.
- Lay out a workbook so somebody else can use it without asking you.
What you will be able to do
- Write formulas using absolute and relative references correctly.
- Use IF, SUMIF, COUNTIF, VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP, and text and date functions.
- Clean an untidy dataset into something analysable.
- Build a pivot table and chart to answer a specific question.
- Protect and validate a sheet so others cannot break it by accident.
- Produce a one-page summary report from raw data.
